Reflections for each essay

Transcultural interview Essay & Commentary: Something that helped me a lot when writing this essay was going back and looking at my notes from the interview I did. It helped me remember the vibes and how the room felt when I was doing the interview with Jane. Something else that helped me when writing this essay was the outline that our professor made on the board. It helped me feel less stuck on what to put in each paragraph. Something else that helped was peer review and professor commentary, receiving their feedback and comments helped me fix what I didn’t know had to be fixed. It opened my eyes to all the improvement I can do. I struggled at first when doing the final draft not because I didn’t know what to do but because I felt overwhelmed. I spent a lot of time staring at my screen not knowing where to start but when I finally started to make changes, everything flowed naturally.

Field Observation Essay & Commentary: Some things that helped me through the process of this essay were in-person observation. This helped me get a better understanding on what to expect for when I had to do my online observation. It helped me search for the patterns or themes when observing a group of people who have no idea they are being observed. Another thing that was super helpful were my observations notes from doing my online observation. I would have never been able to write this essay if it wasn’t for my notes. It helped me remember the important things that were being said and their use of language. It helped me to then find the themes and patterns easier than having to go back and try to find themes all at once.

Literature Review & Commentary: When doing this essay I found it to be the hardest one out of all of them. I struggled the most with this essay and I still feel like I did not do my best in this one. I have never done a literature review essay before and I had no idea what it looked like so I had trouble when making one. Something that helped me write this essay was again the outline that the professor drew out on the board. It gave me the vision I was not seeing with only the instructions. I had a better understanding of what to do but I still struggled. Something else that helped was the annotated bibliography. It helped me break down the readings and take out the important parts of the long articles. I went back to the AB many times when writing the essay. Something else that helped was peer review but this time not from receiving feedback but from reading my peer’s essay. Seeing and reading someone’s work helped me see what I was supposed to do since they seem to know more than I did. It helped me set that vision in my head on what I had to do for my essay.
